Friday Update 5/7

On Friday, I update my library and share what new books I bought or received during the past week.

Just one new book to add to my library this week: Something Rotten (Thursday Next #4) by Jasper Fforde. I haven't read a Fforde novel in a while, so I thought it would be fun to get back into them.

I also visited the library and checked out two books: Cloud Atlas: A Novel by David Mitchell and Bloodhound: The Legend of Beka Cooper #2 by Tamora Pierce (which comes out in paperback in a few weeks - finally!).

  1. Love Cloud Atlas! One of my all-time faves. The beginning is a bit weird, but keep on going!

  2. Hey Lorin, I loaned cloud atlas to your sister, but she asked me if she could skip the sci-fi parts. I told her no, and she hasn't mentioned the book since. It's fantastic though, as are David Mitchell's books in general.

  3. I've said it once, and I will say it again: I HATE ROBOTS, Pat. Now leave me alone.

  4. The other thing is, I hate short stories, and Cloud Atlas' genre-jumping chapters seem too much like short stories for me to concentrate on it.

  5. Dre, I tend to think of Cloud Atlas as approaching one theme using multiple characters and viewpoints. Kind of like the Wire, which you probably don't like that much either, I suppose...

  6. Pat, if this is a flame war, you're gonna need to bring it a little better than that. I think your flamethrower is not on or something.
